Calling All Teams
Who is this for?
Professional teams running the circuit, amateur teams looking to dip their toes in competition BBQ, Backyard enthusiasts who cook for their shul or family and friends, and anyone that appreciates and understands real BBQ. We are gathering to show off our skills, raise the bar on our community’s Kosher offerings, learn from and enjoy one another’s company.
The more the merrier.
All skill levels welcome and encouraged.
What
This is a KCBS-sanctioned competitor series event, kashrut-supervised by the Star K. For Kosher logistical purposes, this will be a 2-meat (Brisket & Chicken) competition.
* Dependent on sponsorships and competition; may expand to additional categories.
Where
Capital Camps & Retreat Center is a Star-K supervised facility 75-90 minutes from Baltimore and DC in the beautiful Catoctin Mountains.

*In observance of Sabbath rules, all preparations must be completed before the Sabbath begins. Food will be prepped by teams at stations in our kitchen facility and all prepped food will be safely stored in our kitchen until the Sabbath ends the following night.Teams who would like to leave and come back the next night are welcome to do so. Premium and economy lodging, as well as prepared meals are available for teams who are interested in spending Shabbat with us. Capital Camps annual Family Camp, which will be running at the same time is an option for teams interested in bringing their families along for the weekend.

Why?
Because our community deserves the real thing.
Rules
- All component ingredients for rubs, sauces, people’s choice supplemental components must be unopened and heckshered in order to go through approval by the Star K, and must be assembled on-site.
- All food preparation must take place on site, in designated areas, under the supervision of the Star K.
- Fires must be lit by StarK mashgiach or his delegate.
- All smokers/cooking equipment/utensils will be provided by CCRC to ensure standards of the Star K are met. Personal smokers/cooking equipment/utensils may be brought from home, but MUST be new/in the box/assembled on-site, to be inspected and approved by the Star K. Any used equipment that is under the supervision of a kosher authority may be considered/full authority for approval is at the discretion of the Star K mashgiach.
- Charcoal and smoke wood are not provided and are the responsibility of the participating teams.
- No smoker electric fans or probes allowed unless inspected and approved by the Star K Crew (new and in the box)
- Two cookers per team
